Retirements would rise above 12% in December

Regarding salaries, it is worth noting that ANSES takes into account the greater variation between the data of the Average Taxable Remuneration of Stable Workers (Ripte), published by the Ministry of Labor, and that of the Salary Index evaluated by INDEC.

The evolution of the Ripte in the third quarter (which is the one taken into account for the December increase) was 11.3%, while to know the final number of the INDEC it remains to know how much wages rose in September, information that will be released this Thursday.

Based on available data, the director of the Center for Argentine Political Economy (CEPA) Hernán Letcher foresees an adjustment in retirements of 12.5%. If these projections are met, the accumulated increase in the income of the elderly during 2021 would be 53.2%.

In parallel, the financial entities and consulting firms that participated in the latest Market Expectations Survey (REM) of the Central Bank expect prices to increase 9.8% in the last three months of the year. Therefore, the accumulated inflation of 2021 would be 50.3%, high but lower than the growth of pensions that Letcher projects. The recovery of purchasing power would be 2.4%.

In tune with this projection, a study by the Ieral of the Mediterranean Foundation indicated that the increase could be 12.6%.

So far, retirees received an increase of 8.07% in March, 12.12% in June and 12.39% in September. Cumulatively, it means a rise of 36.2%, against inflation of 37% in the same period.

Assets have suffered a contraction in real terms during 2020. The income of those who receive higher pensions were more affected than those of those who receive the minimum, based on the progressive increases established by decree by the Government before the suspension of the above formula.
