This is because special programs are ending and fewer unemployed are expected. According to the new board member Petra Draxl, the funding budget for active labor market policy will decrease by 200 million euros to 1.1 billion euros.
Born in Styria, she has been the regional director of AMS Vienna since 2012 and has been the first woman on the board since July. Internal job cuts will keep them busy: in 2024, 125 full-time positions will have to be cut in the AMS.
In an interview with the Austria Press Agency, she called the targets set by Labor Minister Martin Kocher – more employment incentives and a focus on green transformation – “very well formulated”. Promotion of green jobs and increased placement of the long-term unemployed is one of Draxl’s main areas of focus.
The AMS board member does not believe that the demand for a reduction in working hours can be implemented in the foreseeable future due to the lack of staff. In terms of additional employment, Draxl demands a simplified application process for the Red-White-Red Card and the right to a childcare place. Draxl’s term of office is limited to 2024, succeeding Herbert Buchinger, who had resigned from his position early. Like board member Johannes Kopf, she wants to apply for another term.
