The companies denounced that the situation is due to delays in payments abroad. The entity that brings together the main producers said that the situation is “critical.”

Argentinian wineriesthe organization made up of companies wine producers of the country, issued a statement announcing their concern about the current situation of the wine exports. “We want to express to the national and provincial authorities and to public opinion in general the situation that we describe as criticism”, they expressed.

According to what was reported, the decrease in sales and the impact on the relationship with customers is a consequence of the delays in payments abroad that affects the entire value chain of the wine industry.

drop in imports

According to the data of the National Institute of Viticulture (INV)exports fell by a 26.8% in fractionated wines, and 44.5% in bulk wines. This represents a decrease in 31.7% in the total volume of wines dispatched abroad.

In the first five months of the year, Argentina exported 81.8 million liters of winewhich translates into a 29% drop compared to the same period last year (33.4 million liters less compared to the same period of 2022).

These falls are mainly due to the lack of competitiveness of the exchange rate, against the cost increases that had the components of the products. In addition to the costs increased by 150% year-on-year, it is added that the price of grapes increased by 200% and 300% compared to the 2022 harvest.

What is the claim of the companies?

First, they requested the review and update of the Export Incentive Plan (PIE), which should generate incentives to export under better exchange conditions, with a special dollar. In addition, they asked that this exchange rate be increased above $300 and that an amount be set that is updated with the official exchange rate.

On the other hand, they expressed against the Fair Prices program. His wish is to eliminate the compulsory access, since the offer is exportable and the markets are totally different.

Ultimately, they believe that one must extend the time window for trades. “The logic of the business requires about 45 days to dispatch the merchandise requested by customers, to which must be added another 90/120 days for the collection of the same. That is to say that we are in about 160 days from the beginning to the end of the operation,” they said.
