A new call for smaller systems of these categories A and B up to 20 kW starts on August 23rd. According to the ministry, all backlogged applications have now been reduced.

Around 30,000 applications were made by private households for smaller roof systems with an output of up to 20 kW. A further 8,400 or so went to companies, most of which applied for larger systems. As in the past, a bidding system will be used for systems with more than 20 kW. These subsidies then go to those companies that have the lowest subsidy needs.

The almost 30,000 approved applications for private customers correspond to electricity production of around 280,000 megawatt hours per year. That in turn is an average consumption of a good 60,000 households.

106 million euros funding

The Minister responsible for climate protection, Leonore Gewessler (Greens), spoke in a statement of a “really impressive demand for solar power funding”. “I’m very satisfied that we can also fund all applications for private roof systems in the second round. This year we are heading for an absolute record in the expansion of solar power plants.”

There was a backlog at the first call in spring. According to Gewessler, this has now been dismantled. This also applies to applications from previous years. Thus, all 90,000 applications for private roof systems were approved in the first call.

In total, the state is providing more than 600 million euros for the promotion of photovoltaic systems this year. At the June call, 106 million euros were awarded, 45 million euros from the EAG and 61 million euros from the climate and energy fund. According to the climate protection ministry, the expansion is proceeding at “record speed”. In the last three years, more work has been done than in all previous years combined.
