In May, the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity (EMAE) registered a fall of 5.5% in the interannual comparison, and of 0.1% with respect to April in the seasonally adjusted measurement.
In May, the monthly estimator of economic activity (EMAE) fell for the second consecutive month: it contracted 5.5% compared to the same month in 2022. For its part, the seasonally adjusted indicator observed a decrease of 0.1% and the trend-cycle indicator remained unchanged in relation to the previous month, the INDEC reported this Tuesday, July 18.

The activities with higher positive incidence in the interannual variation of the EMAE in May were “Wholesale, retail and repair trade” and “Real estate, business and rental activities”.


In contrast, the branches of activity with higher negative incidence were “Agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry” and “Transportation and communications”.
Economy in May: sector by sector
In relation to the same month of 2022, 10 sectors of activity that make up the EMAE registered increases in May, among which stand out Exploitation of mines and quarries (+5.3%) and Hotels and restaurants (4.1%). The Wholesale, retail and repair trade sector (+2.8%) had the greatest positive impact on the interannual variation of the EMAE, followed by Real estate, business and rental activities (+1.7%).
For their part, 5 sectors of activity registered falls in the year-on-year comparison, among which stand out Agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry (-43.8%) and Fishing (-22.6%). The first is also the one with the greatest negative impact: it contributed 5.8 percentage points to the year-on-year fall in the EMAE.
