This Tuesday, July 18, the Palermo Rural Exhibition received the first animals from two historical breeds for the country. “Mercosur”, a Shorthorn bull, and “pericon“, a Criollo horse, entered to the property, marking the start of the 135th International Livestock, Agriculture and Industry Exhibition “Rural Expo”.
More than 2,000 animals of different breeds and species expected in the sample, the organizers highlighted the importance of these specimens it’s a statement. The president of the Argentine Rural Society (SRA), Nicholas Pinohighlighted that these animals “represent the history of cattle and horse farming in Argentinaas well as the history of the SRA”.
The Shorthorn breed commemorates 200 years since the arrival of the bull Tarquino to the countrywhile the Criollo Horse Breeders Association celebrates its centenary. These historical milestones make the exhibition a significant event for the Argentine agricultural sector.
Pino, accompanied by colleagues from the Liaison Commission and directors of the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), stressed the importance of the agricultural sector for the development of the country. He expressed his wish that the Rural Exhibition of Palermo refremove the essence of the Argentine countryside and become a space to promote justice and a more equitable country”.
Expo Rural: the detail of the breeds
He Mercosur bullbelonging to the Santa Cecilia cabin in Trenque Lauquen, is a two-year-old specimen that weighs 960 kilos. According to Héctor Mario and Francisco Eyherabide, owners of the cabin, Mercosur is a docile bull with a good temperament. The animal’s name was chosen due to the demand for its semen in Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina, and his sister was Grand Champion last year.
On the other hand, Pericon, a Criollo horse from Coronel Vidal’s Breland Chico stall also joined the exhibition. Magdalena Paz Anchorena, owner of the establishment, highlighted the tranquility and quality of Pericón, a four-year-old horse that has participated in the Expo on previous occasions.
The Rural Exhibition of Palermo, which will run from July 20 to 30, it will have more than 4,500 animal exhibitors and around 400 commercial exhibitors. The event is expected to be a reflection of the potential and resilience of the Argentine countryside, demonstrating its competitiveness and productivity in the country.

With the participation of prominent politicians such as Sergio Massa, Javier Milei, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, Patricia Bullrich and Juan Schiaretti, the exhibition also becomes a political space during this election year. In addition, the “Corazones Abiertos” Fair for Social Entrepreneurs will be held, where more than 35 foundations and NGOs will present their products for sale.
The official opening of the Palermo Rural Exhibition is scheduled for Saturday, July 29, starting at 11:00. It will be an event that will celebrate the rich livestock and agricultural tradition of Argentina and that will offer an opportunity to show the world the potential and importance of the agricultural sector in the country.
