The confirmed spokesman for Siemens and Deutsche Bahn, the operator of the regional trains, on Tuesday. The EU-wide tendering and awarding process has now been completed.
In the course of this, the French rival Alstom had – in vain – lodged an objection to the award for Siemens Mobility, as a spokesman confirmed: “We are still of the opinion that we have submitted a very good offer. We take note of the decision.” The “Münchner Merkur” reported that the Southern Bavaria Public Procurement Chamber had rejected Alstom’s objection because the Alstom trains were cheaper, but more expensive to maintain, clean and consume more energy than the custom-made trains from Siemens.
Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter wants to present the new, 200-meter-long trains on August 2 together with the Bavarian Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter and Bahn Regional Board Member Evelyn Palla. The new fleet, which replaces the 423 series used since the 1990s, is being financed by Bavaria.
