This was announced by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism yesterday. Approval has been granted successively since the beginning of the year: In the third stage, Germany, Great Britain, the USA, Japan, Australia and other destinations are listed in addition to Austria. Individual trips by Chinese tourists have been possible again for some time.
The Austrian tourism industry was pleased: “As the largest Asian market of origin, China is of enormous importance for Austrian tourism,” said Secretary of State for Tourism Susanne Kraus-Winkler. In 2019, before the Corona outbreak, China was responsible for 1.5 million overnight stays and was therefore the most important Asian market of origin. 280 million euros were taken from Chinese travelers.
