This first funding call of the newly adjusted “Agricultural Research and Development” program runs until September 29th.

Two exciting projects have already been approved. First, it’s about “wet corn tubing”. Excess wet corn that cannot be processed in the Agrana starch plant in Aschach during the harvest season is to be stored in film tubes in the future. This gives farmers more flexibility. And the drying of corn can be avoided, resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Secondly, sugar beet heaps (so-called “heaps”) at the field edges are to be covered in the future. In this way, the beet farmers’ cooperative, Agrana and the central machine ring are trying to improve the quality of the beet. Depending on the planning of the removal logistics, the windrows should be covered with fleece throughout Upper Austria and thus protected from the weather, especially frost. The beets under the fleece also remain dry, which significantly improves the cleaning of the soil.

Projects in the area of digitization have already been requested by the state and more are to be expected. “Our goal is to use new technologies and digitization for agriculture,” says Minister of Agriculture Michaela Langer-Weninger.
