Global Wealth Report: The Swiss are the richest

According to a study, global household wealth fell last year for the first time since the 2008 financial crisis. The total private wealth of adults around the world shrank by 2.4 percent to $ 454.4 trillion (around 416 trillion euros) in 2022, according to a study published on Tuesday (Global Wealth Report) by UBS and its subsidiary Credit Suisse (CS) was called.

Financial assets in particular have lost value, while real estate has proved resilient despite rapidly rising interest rates. The population of the USA, Hong Kong and Australia recorded above-average losses.

USA and Hong Kong to Switzerland

Despite a decline, Switzerland topped the list of countries with the highest wealth per capita. Thanks to many rich people, the country averaged $685,000, followed by the US and Hong Kong. In Germany, an adult owned an average of $256,000, in Austria $245,000.

The number of millionaires will increase significantly

The number of millionaires worldwide fell by 3.5 million to 59.4 million. However, the authors of the study expect a reversal in the coming years. Total wealth is expected to grow 38 percent to $629 trillion by 2027, largely thanks to growth in middle-wealth countries. The study put the number of millionaires at 86 million in five years.
