After the 22% devaluation of the exchange rate ordered by the BCRA after the STEP, the government activated meetings with businessmen to try to moderate its impact on prices. At the negotiating table with mass consumption companies that Guillermo Michel started, now is added the agreement reached with the main companies in the oil sector.
“Today, based on the work of producers, refiners, the Secretary of Energy, Customs and the Secretary of Commerce, we have advanced in an agreement that implies that the 12.5% increase will be the last until 31 October”informed the presidential candidate of UP although he also announced that, after the increases implemented in the pump by Raizen (Shell) and Trafigura (Cougar) 12.5%, tonight YPF will do the same to compensate.
“Thanks to YPF that made the decision to wait for a general agreement of the industry and refiners to coordinate the increase”, indicated Massa, in a shot by elevation for the rest of the oil companies, that on August 15, as soon as the price agreement expired, remarked 12.5% gasoline unilaterally.
Massa also appreciated that the state oil company “feels part of a public policy to take care of people’s pockets.”
According to what he said, during the term of the agreement “there will be no more fuel increases” and he explained that the decision arises from the fact that part of the impact of the devaluation has already been assumed by the consumer, another part will be assumed by the companies and a third part by the State “that it is going to resign part of the resources that it collects in taxes from fuel companies.”
At the same time, he thanked “the companies, both producers and refiners” and stated that “the oil and gas industry is one of the drivers of our economy” since part of the drop due to the impact of the drought “is offset because of the enormous growth that the sector has”.
However, he said that “the most important thing is that the activity reaches people’s pockets in an orderly manner.”
Agreement with oil companies
The Government will implement as of this midnight thesane with the oil companies that will freeze pump prices until October 31. This was confirmed by Minister Massa during the meeting with businessmen in the sector.
The freezing of fuels has a double objective: on the one hand, to avoid the direct impact on the pocket of citizens, and on the other, to stop the transfer at prices that would mean an increase in the cost of transport in the supply chain of the economy.
The agreement will include tax benefits for companies. as anticipated Massa, the State will resign the collection of taxes to contain part of the devaluation.
In any case, it was also announced that the Ministry of Energy will control compliance with the agreement through a complaint system. In the event that the companies do not comply with the agreement, the tax benefits will be removed.
