The holidays are a challenge for parents to juggle work and caring for their children. In at least 119 companies, they stepped in. They offer childcare for their employees during the holidays.
119 companies have so far applied for a grant. This is granted by the state of Upper Austria, the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce and Kompass, the competence center for maternity leave and careers. Companies can apply for support for one week of care during the summer holidays and another week during the autumn holidays. The support amounts to a maximum of 1400 euros per company. According to education officer Christine Haberlander and Economics Minister Markus Achleitner, 2,306 children and their parents benefited this year.
The BMW engine plant in Steyr now offers all-day care throughout the summer holidays – 180 children from three to twelve are attending this year. 2014 started with a holiday program.
Crafting, playing, romping
In August, for the fifth time, twelve children aged between four and twelve will be cared for by the Familienbund for two weeks at the pharmaceutical company Takeda in Linz. Daycare is available all year round.
There is also a holiday program at the technology company Miba in Laakirchen, which is offering three-week childcare for the ninth time. 80 children between the ages of four and 14 are taking part this year, and technology experiments are also on offer. Miba has been running a company crèche for ten years.
