“Taking into account the offer made to me by Javier Milei to join his work team in the event of being elected President of the Nation, having decided to accept it and currently holding the position of Executive Director for Argentina and Haiti at the Inter-American Development Bank, Being at the same time the Dean of its Board of Directors, I have made the decision to step away from said function in the coming days in order not to affect any sensitivity at such a crucial moment in our young democracy,” Francos said in a statement.

He also stated that “I am grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to defend the interests of our country, and of Latin America and the Caribbean, in the most important Development Institution in the region.”

“I am convinced of having honored that trust, as I am also of accepting to work in the team led by Javier Milei to build a liberal Argentina as conceived by (Juan Bautista) Alberdi: modern, developed, fairer and more dignified”, concluded.

Who is Guillermo Francos?

Francos, 73, had been appointed by Fernández to the IDB in 2019 and is now being mentioned as a possible Interior Minister in an eventual Milei government.

The lawyer held public office since the 1970s, including in the government of María Estela Martínez de Perón. He continued to hold various positions until, with the return of democracy, he was elected councilor for the Federal Party.

In 1989 his party supported the presidential candidacy of the radical Eduardo Angeloz and in 1995 he did the same with the Peronist Carlos Menem.
