In the corona pandemic, the delivery service business boomed. Now it looks much worse.
The food delivery service Getir wants to part with around 2,500 employees due to the deteriorated market situation. The company announced this. The portals “Business Insider” and “Gründerszene” had previously reported on an impending wave of layoffs. According to the announcement, the company currently employs around 23,000 people in five countries.
The Turkish delivery service operates in the so-called quick commerce area, where customers can use an app to have supermarket products delivered to their own front door within minutes. This business boomed in the big cities, especially during the corona pandemic, but the situation has now deteriorated significantly.
Just a few weeks ago, Getir announced that the delivery service from Spain, Portugal and Italy wanted to withdraw completely. It was not known how many employees had to leave the company as a result. At that time it was said that the company wanted to focus its business in Europe primarily on Germany. In Germany, Getir took over the competitor Gorillas some time ago.
In Tuesday’s statement, the company reiterated that it would continue to offer its services in Germany, Turkey, the UK, the Netherlands and the US. How many employees have to go to which of the five countries has not been announced.
