The Government approved the model agreement for the establishment of a line of credit conditional for investment projects to be held with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for US$475 million to support the Salto Grande Binational Hydroelectric Complex Modernization Program, through decree 420/2023 published today in the Official bulletin.

In the same way, through decree 421/2023, the IDB loan contract model for US$35 million was validated, destined to finance the Export Support Program of the Knowledge Economy.

The first decree specified that the general objective of the program is to contribute to the decarbonization of the interconnected electrical system through the modernization of Salto Grande.

big jump It is a binational complex made up of the departments of Concordia and Federación in the province of Entre Ríos, and that of Salto in Uruguay.

The plan consists of guaranteeing the reliability and availability of the hydroelectric complex, helping to extend its useful life, and contributing to environmental and social sustainability.

To this end, it will finance actions such as the modernization of turbine speed regulators; the renovation of the hydromechanical systems of the spillway and structural reinforcement of the spillway gates; and the replacement of main transformers and communication systems, among others.

The program will make it possible to maintain the operation of the hydroelectric complex with adequate availability and reliability indices, benefiting 17.2 million users of the electrical systems in Argentina and Uruguay with renewable energy, a quality and cost-efficient service.

The beneficiaries in Argentina will be almost 2,000 citrus, blueberry and horticultural producers, 291 forest-industrial establishments; 908 hotels and restaurants and more than 2,200 commercial establishments.

In Uruguay, the beneficiaries will be 561 citrus, horticultural and blueberry producers, and 65 hotels and restaurants.

Regarding the second decree, the general objective of the program is to contribute to the increase in exports of the knowledge economy sectors through the provision of specialized human capital, the development and adoption of technologies based on Artificial Intelligence and the promotion of its international insertion.
