The United States Ambassador to Argentina, Mark Stanleyemphasized that the approach that the country will have for the energy transition “It will be key to its economic future”and that it has the elements “to play an increasingly important role in giving energy to the world”
“This issue is very important to us because Argentina’s approach to the energy transition will be key to its economic future. Argentina has incredible natural resources and first-class human resources, and I saw them first-hand having visited 15 provinces, from Vaca Muerta and Patagonia to the Lithium triangle”stated the ambassador at the AmCham Energy Forum conference that is taking place today at the Sheraton Buenos Aires hotel.
In this context, he affirmed that Argentina “He’s in a good place to play an increasingly important role in powering the world.”
Stanley, a native of Texas, compared the role that energy had in his home state with what it can have in Argentina. “In Texas, our economy is probably one of the most dynamic and fastest growing in the United States, and energy was key to that expansion. Its benefits were not limited to the energy sector, but it also pays for hospitals, schools, and its entire economy. It is growing from new investments in manufacturing and industries. Everyone wants to come to Texas and this is the result of the oil and gas industry,” the US official mentioned as an example.
After which, he recalled the work being done by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to “build a clean energy economy by focusing on sustainability and asking government agencies to collaborate with the private sector.”
“We are emulating this model in our ties abroad. Here, in Argentina, and everywhere”, remarked Stanley, who stressed that the United States is a “natural ally” of the country “in every way.” Said cooperation – he indicated – includes the technical aspect, through the “experience of the American renewable energy laboratories”.
On the other hand, Argentina, along with other countries, will be key to the Biden administration’s objective of “diversifying the supply chains of critical minerals, particularly those central to the energy transition.” “We and other governments launched the Minerals Security Partnership last year and we are very proud, because it seeks to support all countries, including Argentina, in reaping the economic benefits of mineral resources through high standards. environmental, social, and governmental,” Stanley recalled.
In this sense, he remarked that the objective is that “Countries like Argentina benefit from all stages of the value chain, from extraction to processing and recycling.”
In the presence of various US companies linked to the energy and mining sector, Stanley asked that there be “a business climate that attracts the development and participation of companies”.
“These companies can go anywhere they want in the world and we have to help them navigate their risks by giving them predictability, the rule of law, clarity, access to capital and imports, and the ability to exploit,” the diplomat said, adding: “This investment climate is key for companies to come to Argentina instead of other destinations.”
Finally, he concluded that the United States and the country share “the same objective of a productive, competitive, innovative and sustainable Argentina, which has a leadership role not only in South America but in the world.”
