The truck production of the Daimler group is to become independent on December 1st. The group is also planning further restructuring in the coming year.
The days of the previous Daimler group with car and truck production under one roof are numbered: The spin-off of the commercial vehicle division is to take effect on December 1st.
The independence of Daimler Truck will then also be anchored in the commercial register, according to the Stuttgart-based company on Monday.
Last week, Daimler had confirmed that it would put the truck and bus business on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on December 10th. On this date, Daimler shareholders are to be given a stake in the new company. To this end, one share in Daimler Truck Holding AG is distributed for every two shares in Daimler AG.
With the division of the group, Mercedes cars and trucks will go their separate ways and each have their own management. According to the plans, Daimler AG is to be renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG on February 1 of next year. With the split, Daimler wants to increase the value of the previous divisions and make them more competitive.
Daimler’s car division Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans employed around 169,000 people at the end of September. The commercial vehicle division with trucks and buses employs over 103,000 people. Daimler Truck sees itself as the world market leader in commercial vehicles.
