The Minister of Economy and candidate for president for Unión por la Patria, Sergio Massalaunches this noon the tender for the reversal work of the North Pipelinewith which it will seek to continue the energy infrastructure policy aimed at enhancing the production capacity of Vaca Muerta.
The event takes place in the Córdoba town of Tío Pujío, where he is accompanied by the president of the state company Energía Argentina (Enarsa), Agustín Gerez, and the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon.
The reversal of the Northern Gas Pipeline will allow gas from the Vaca Muerta unconventional hydrocarbon field in Neuquén to be brought to industries in the provinces of Córdoba, Tucumán, La Rioja, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, Salta and Jujuy.
As well as the connection of homes in those seven provinces to the natural gas networks and the development on a scale of new industrial activities, especially lithium mining, according to official sources.
The entire reversal of the North Gas Pipeline will generate 3,000 direct jobs and 12,000 indirect ones.
Once the work is finished, there will be an annual saving of US$1,960 million for the State; a drop in the cost of electricity generation and natural gas for the industries of northern Argentina; and exports to northern Chile, central Brazil and Bolivia.
The reversal will mean an investment of US$710 million by the Government, US$540 million of which comes from a loan from the Development Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), and the gas pipeline will be operational before the winter of 2024.
The process is made up of three different works, which are complementary to stage 2 of the President Néstor Kirchner Gas Pipeline (GPNK).
The first one is the construction of a gas pipeline between the towns of Tío Pujio and La Carlota in the province of Córdoba, near Villa María, which consists of 122 kilometers with 36-inch pipes.
The other two are expansions on the North Gas Pipeline, 62 kilometers long and with 30-inch pipes.
In addition, the direction of gas injection will be reversed in four existing compression plants in Ferreyra and Dean Funes (Córdoba), Lavalle (Santiago del Estero) and Lumbreras (Salta).
