Required salary in the IT sector is almost 30% higher than in the rest of the labor market

The salary required by workers in the IT sector was 29.3% higher in the first half of the year than the rest of the labor market, according to IT Index that jointly elaborate the signature Bumeran and the Ministry of Economic Development and Production of the City of Buenos Aires.

The result represented a decrease of 10 percentage points in the wage gap between the IT sector and the rest of the market in relation to the previous measurementsince in the last six months of 2022 the distance was 39%.

The data comes from the Index IT, a semi-annual study prepared jointly by the City Government, through the Ministry of Economic Development and Production, and the Bumeran employment portal that analyzes different variables of the labor market in the technology sector.

According to seniority, the salary gap also presented a decrease in the difference between the expected remunerations of the technology sector and the market average at the senior, semi-senior and boss or supervisor levels.

The wage gap for the first half of 2023 represented 26.8% at junior levels; 27.3% in senior and semi-senior positions, and reached 31.6% for senioritis of boss or supervisor.

For its part, in the second half of 2022, the gap had been 13% at junior levels; 27% in senior and semi-senior positions, and 57% for boss or supervisor senioritis.

Despite this decline, targeted salaries in the IT sector remain higher than the market average.

Salaries: what is the expected salary in the IT sector

In June 2023, the intended IT salary in junior positions was 257,098 pesos per month, while the market average was 202,700 pesos. In senior and semi-senior positions, the remuneration required in the IT sector was 370,961 pesos per month, and the market average was 291,317 pesos.

In the chief or supervisor senioritis, the requested salary was 621,042 pesos, and the market average was 472,036 pesos.

On the other hand, if the report is analyzed from a gender perspective, only 21% of applications in technology were from women during the first semester of 2023, which means a decrease of 12.5 percentage points in relation to the previous semester. , which reached 33.5%.
