Last July, a family of two adults and two children needed in the Buenos Aires suburbs, $110,079.26 to cover his expenses feeding basic throughout the month. Only thirty days later -in August- the value of the same basket reached $139,789.65, that is, the family needed to add $29,710.39 (+26.99%) to their resources, to acquire the same essential foods, which responds to an increase greater than the devaluation. For its part, the year-on-year rise reached 167.05%.

This is the result of ISEPCI monthly survey (Institute for Social, Economic and Citizen Policy Research) from the Neighborhood Price Index (IBP) in shops close to the Popular neighbourhoods of twenty districts of this region of Buenos Aires.


On the other hand, the Total Basic Basket (CBT) that adds to basic foods a universe of essential products for daily life, such as education, health, clothing, transportation, fares and others, had a similar monthly increase of 26.99%. , and year-on-year of 164.67%.
The cost of the CBT for a family of two adults and two small children, for the first time in August exceeded the barrier of 300 thousand pesos: $311,730.92. That is, $66,254 more than in July.
The changes in the prices of the different items that make up the CBA show some striking results. The whopping 27% monthly increase was mainly driven by the rise of the meats which exceeded 48%, and 168% annually.
