Given all the above, it is expected that the year 2021 will close with an amount of imports higher than that of 2019, and even close to that of 2018.
Regarding the origins of external purchases of auto parts, as expected, the ranking was led by Brazil. In the first nine months of 2021, US $ 1,724 million were imported from the neighboring country, which represented 28.8% of the total. This implied an increase of 80.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thailand was the second most important origin, accumulating US $ 773 million (12.9% of the total), 78.9% more than in 2020. In third place was China, origin from which US $ 551 million was imported. (9.3% of the total), increasing by 65.4%. For its part, if the bloc of the European Union as a whole is considered, imports made would amount to US $ 1,370 million, ranking second in the main origins, and contributing 22.9% of total external purchases.
