Despite delays in the acquisition of auto parts, imports increased 81.8%

Likewise, when analyzing vehicle production, it is verified that during the January-September 2021 period, 307,412 units were manufactured (+ 85.5%). This value was accompanied by the increase registered in the auto parts sector and exceeded the units produced in the same period of the last two years (+ 85.5% compared to 2020 and + 27.4% compared to 2019). Given all the above, it is expected that the year 2021 will close with an amount of imports higher than that of 2019, and even close to that of 2018.

Regarding the origins of external purchases of auto parts, as expected, the ranking was led by Brazil. In the first nine months of 2021, US $ 1,724 million were imported from the neighboring country, which represented 28.8% of the total. This implied an increase of 80.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thailand was the second most important origin, accumulating US $ 773 million (12.9% of the total), 78.9% more than in 2020. In third place was China, origin from which US $ 551 million was imported. (9.3% of the total), increasing by 65.4%. For its part, if the bloc of the European Union as a whole is considered, imports made would amount to US $ 1,370 million, ranking second in the main origins, and contributing 22.9% of total external purchases. More than half of the imports made during the January-September 2021 period correspond to three product groups: Transmission, Engine components and Electrical.

The ranking of the main trading partners

The countries with which Argentina had the greatest commercial exchange for the auto parts sector during January-September 2021 were:

  1. Brazil: negative balance u $ s1051 million.
  2. Thailand: negative trade balance of US $ 766 million
  3. China: deficit of US $ 555 million
  4. EU: negative balance of US $ 1,274 million, which would put it in second place after Brazil.

What happens with exports

Exports of auto parts increased 39.2% in the first nine months of 2021, from $ 742 million to $ 1033 million. Exports of auto parts were concentrated in Brazil with US $ 673 million (65.2% of external sales of components), increasing by 75.6% compared to January / September 2020. The United States was the second export destination accumulating USD67 million (6.5% of the total) and South Africa ranked third with USD 32 million (3.1% of the total exported).

On the other hand, when considering the European Union, auto parts sales made to the Block amounted to US $ 96 million, 9.3% of the total exported. Within it, the two most important destinations were Germany (US $ 27 million) and Poland (US $ 22 million), since both accumulate more than half of the exports made to the Union in 2021 (51.9%). The main export items for auto parts were Transmissions, Engines and Engine Components. Together they account for 71.9% of the exports made in 2021.
