Pandemic: employers and unions call for vaccinations

The seven-day incidence is rising steadily, and the number of new corona infections keeps reaching new highs. Employers and unions are therefore sending an appeal to employees.

In a joint appeal, employers and unions have called on employees to vaccinate in view of the “very serious situation” in the pandemic.

“Vaccination is and will remain the silver bullet out of the pandemic,” says a statement by the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations and the German Federation of Trade Unions. The aim must be to continue the vaccination campaign.

In addition to the urgently needed vaccinations for so far unvaccinated people, in the current phase of the pandemic, in particular, booster vaccinations, which could also make a significant contribution to further containment of the pandemic, it said.

On Thursday, the federal and state governments will discuss the further course of the pandemic, and the Bundestag will vote on changes to the Infection Protection Act beforehand. Among other things, a 3G rule in the workplace is planned.

Employers are called upon to offer employees initial and booster vaccinations and tests.

The large difference in the infection and hospitalization numbers of vaccinated and unvaccinated people clearly shows: “Unvaccinated people expose themselves and, indirectly, their fellow human beings to an unnecessarily high risk of infection and ultimately also of death. They are responsible for a considerable part of the overloading of the health care system and, last but not least, the employees there. ” The fight against untruths and fake news about vaccine side effects remains important, it continues.

The social partners are aware of their responsibility. “With pandemic plans, a wide range of regulations for mobile working and data protection, test offers and collective bargaining agreements to mitigate the effects of the Corona crisis, we have maintained economic life despite the difficult conditions in numerous areas and made many jobs safe places. In view of the worsening pandemic situation, a joint effort is now required again. “
