Parcel services: Amazon overtakes DPD – Post AG has to give up

The undisputed top dog with a market share of 52 percent is the partially state-owned Austrian Post, but it had to give up. Amazon achieved 16 percent in the first quarter (more recent figures are not available).

In terms of sales, DPD is still in second place in the “domestic parcels delivered” segment with a share of 12.2 percent, behind Austrian Post (60.6 percent) and ahead of Amazon (10.8 percent).

83.8 million parcels were delivered in Austria in the first quarter of 2023, which is 6.8 million parcels or almost 9 percent more than in the first quarter of 2022, RTR calculates. Around 7.7 million parcels were transported abroad by Austrian postal service providers in the first quarter.

Likewise, 141.3 million letters were delivered in Austria in the first three months of this year, 4 percent less than in the same quarter of the previous year. 8.0 million letters were sent abroad, 300,000 letters or 3.3 percent fewer than at the beginning of 2022.
