Massa announced the suspension of withholdings from the dairy for 90 days

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massaannounced this Wednesday a suspension of withholdings for 90 days for dairy products, a 20% increase in the Impulso Tambero quota and the extension of the program until December 31.

The measures were arranged after a meeting that, together with the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan José Bahilloheld with representatives of the dairy chain and officials of the producing provinces in the Santa Fe town of Pilar.

From the dairy company facilities Tremblay, The candidate for president for Unión por la Patria (UP) also announced these measures with the intention of repair the detrimental effects that the drought had on the cost structure of producers.

The measurements are in exchange for freezing product prices for three months and maintaining the profitability of the dairy farmers, implying an investment of more than $10,000 million by the State.

“The issue of prices and that we have agreed on a clear price path for people in the next 90 days on the shelves is key and it is also key that the effort reaches the producer, because if we lower withholdings and the producer does not see a price improvement will not have helped anything in terms of volumes”, he assured.

For his part, Bahillo highlighted Minister Massa’s vocation for dialogue when approaching dialogue with the actors of the dairy chain and reaffirmed “the commitment to continue accompanying the producers because the problems are not solved with the first rain.”

And the governor of Santa Fe, Omar Perotti, maintained that “It is an opportunity to ratify the potential that the dairy and the central region have due to the roots, the incorporation of value and the distribution in each of the different towns, generating industries, with the significance and history that the Santa Fe dairy has arriving to international markets”.

Dairy sector: what factors affected the industry

In this context, Minister Massa mentioned that “the international fall of the milk powder price “is hitting the industry, which also has a very important level in terms of job creation in some locations in the province of Santa Fe.”

“It also has the particularity that it greatly influences the production level that we have in the production volume of our dairy farms. We need to maintain it, above all things because this also influences the price volume on the shelf for all citizens,” he said.

Along these lines, he announced that he will be launching “in a very few days, perhaps the most important work for the dairy basin in terms of energy generation”, in reference to the gas pipeline, “which allows a large part of the towns in the interior of Santa Fe to have cheaper energy but also volumes that allow the people of Santa Fe to compete and sell their work to the world” .
