Currently, insurance protection against flood damage in this country is primarily provided through household and homeowners insurance. However, there is an upper limit on the sums that can be insured. There is usually not enough cover to completely restore properties damaged by flooding.
According to the Austria Press Agency, Müller can imagine integrating catastrophe coverage into the existing fire insurance. The prerequisite is a higher premium for all insured persons of one to two euros additional per month. This could finance 80 to 90 percent of all existing flood disasters, says Müller.
