Nothing worked at Volkswagen for a long time. The company was unable to get a serious IT problem under control that brought production to a standstill in several plants. The error now seems to have been found.
Volkswagen says it has fixed the IT malfunction that had paralyzed production at several plants since Wednesday. Production is now ramping up again, a spokesman for the car manufacturer told the dpa on Thursday morning.
“The IT infrastructure problems in the Volkswagen network were resolved during the night and the network is working stably again,” he said. “The affected applications are currently being restarted. The global production network is starting up and production should take place as planned.”
However, individual systems could still be affected “in a transition phase,” he added. There are still no signs that the disruption was caused by external influences.
The IT disruption paralyzed the Volkswagen Group’s central network on Wednesday. Production in several plants came to a standstill, including Wolfsburg, Zwickau, Emden and Osnabrück. Audi’s component plants in Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Kassel were also affected. Audi also reported problems.
According to “Handelsblatt”, car dealerships and the US plant in Chattanooga were also affected. According to an IT service provider responsible for the company’s networks, it was a global disruption. A crisis team was set up in Wolfsburg and worked throughout the night to solve the problem.
