Air traffic: Ryanair cancels flights in the winter timetable

Because ordered Boeing aircraft are not delivered on time, not all planned Ryanair flights can take place. Passengers should be offered rebookings or refunds.

The airline Ryanair wants to cancel a number of flights in its winter schedule. The company said the reason for this was delays in the delivery of new Boeing aircraft. “The flight cancellations will come into force at the end of October and will be communicated to all affected passengers by email in the coming days,” wrote Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary. Guests will be offered a rebooking or a refund depending on their request.

Ryanair expects that only 14 new aircraft will be delivered this autumn instead of the 27 hoped for. That is why fewer aircraft are to be stationed at some airports, for example in Charleroi, Dublin, Porto, Cologne and some Italian cities. Ryanair said it did not have any replacement aircraft due to maintenance work on its fleet this winter. The Irish company did not initially say how many flights would be canceled.

“We sincerely apologize to our passengers for any inconvenience caused by delivery delays this winter,” O’Leary said. Ryanair worked closely with Boeing and its supplier Spirit to minimize delivery delays. Ryanair is planning a total of 57 new Boeing aircraft for the peak summer travel season.
