External debt increased to US6,201 million at the end of the second quarter

The Gross external debt stood at US$276,201 million at the end of the second quarter of the current year, above the US$274,837 million for the same period in 2022, The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) reported this Thursday.

Furthermore, this level of US$276,201 million was US$227 million above the result of the first quarter of 2023, due to the increase in commitments from non-financial companies.

Of this total, US$155,116 million correspond to the Government, US$66,417 million in securitiesand US$77,469 million in loans.

Another US$27,672 million corresponded to the Central Bank, with US$6,750 million in Special Drawing Rights; yu$s20,922 million in loans.

The deposit-taking companies showed commitments for US$2,918 million; Other financial companies US$1,650 million; and Non-financial companies US$88,844 million, Indec reported.

All of these records are part of the Balance of Payments, a quarterly report presented by INDEC and which brings together all movements of merchandise, goods and services abroad.

Regarding the Balance of Payments, it reflected a Current Account deficit of US$6,351 million at the end of the second quarter of the year, which marked strong progress compared to the US$ 1,067 million in April-June 2022.

Last year, the Current Account closed with a deficit of US$4,290 millionwhich reversed the surplus of US$6,645 million in 2021.

As of June 30, 2023, the Argentine economy recorded a net international investment position at creditor market value of US$ 92,928 million, US$ 10,815 million lower than the previous quarter.

The negative variation estimated for residents’ external assets was accompanied during the quarter under analysis by an increase in external liabilities.

In effect, on this occasion the external assets were estimated at US$424,535 million, US$4,181 million lower than those registered in the first quarter of 2023.

External liabilities were estimated at US$331,607 million, US$6,634 million more than in the previous quarter.
