This emerges from the flash estimate published by Statistics Austria on Friday. This is the lowest inflation since Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022. Compared to the previous month of August, prices are 0.5 percent higher. The decline is primarily due to household energy prices, which now have a dampening effect on inflation.

“Price pressure has continued to ease”

“Price pressure has also continued to ease for food,” said Statistics Austria General Director Tobias Thomas, according to the broadcast. According to the flash estimate, the harmonized consumer price index (HICP), which is important for comparisons with other EU countries, fell to 5.8 percent. According to this index, prices increased by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month.

Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) wrote in a statement that the decline in inflation “makes us optimistic. The positive trend is continuing and I am confident that inflation will continue to ease in the next few months.”
