24 hour care

Personal carers support people who need permanent care with managing their household and living in their private household. Among other things, they prepare meals, run errands and household chores, help with personal hygiene and keep people company. A good basis for this profession is training to become a home helper at schools for social professions. Personal carers can also work independently.

Home help

Home helpers support needy, sick or disabled people of all ages daily or several times a week with household management and activities of daily living. The training is offered by educational organizations as well as health and nursing schools and includes 200 teaching units each of theory and practice.

Nursing assistance

Nursing assistance includes the care of people in need of care in support of the higher-level health and nursing services as well as doctors. Nursing assistants help patients with personal hygiene, prepare meals and, if necessary, assist with eating. The training normally lasts one year and takes place at schools for health and nursing that are set up at or in connection with hospitals or in courses/training in nursing assistance.

Nursing assistants are responsible for monitoring the health status of patients. They are also intended to relieve the burden on the higher-level health and nursing services. The training normally lasts two years and takes place in courses/training set up at or in conjunction with hospitals.

Higher service for health and nursing care

These are health professions with independent responsibility for all nursing, preventative and health-promoting measures; According to a doctor’s order, also for the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic measures. The job requires three years of training or a bachelor’s degree at a university of applied sciences. From next year, the three-year training will only take place at universities of applied sciences as part of a bachelor’s degree.
