Economic policy: DIHK President speaks of a serious situation in “Brandbrief”.

High energy prices, a shortage of skilled workers and high bureaucratic burdens: The DIHK President writes of a serious economic situation – and holds politicians responsible.

The President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Adrian, is calling for measures from politicians to keep Germany competitive as a location.

In a so-called “fire letter” sent to the heads of all chambers of industry and commerce as well as foreign chambers of commerce, which was available to the German Press Agency, Adrian wrote of a serious economic situation.

He cited high energy prices, the shortage of workers and skilled workers, the dilapidated infrastructure and high bureaucratic burdens as hurdles. A “flood of standards” is overwhelming large and small companies as well as government agencies that can no longer keep up with control. Companies urgently need to be relieved.

The economic prospects for Germany have deteriorated. The leading economic research institutes have significantly reduced their economic forecast for this year. They expect the gross domestic product to shrink by 0.6 percent, as the institutes announced on Thursday. In the spring, the institutes had assumed a mini-growth of 0.3 percent.
