Despite the economic downturn, there are over 200,000 job vacancies in Austria – a tripling in the last ten years. The Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs, WKÖ and the Austrian Business Agency (ABA) now want to provide more support to domestic companies in their search for international skilled workers. An exciting market that is now receiving more attention is Brazil with its 214 million inhabitants. The young population is well educated and is attractive to companies in the IT or electrical engineering sectors, which find it difficult to fill their vacancies in Austria.
In order to promote Austria as a place to work, a competition on software development was organized in which almost 120 Brazilian students took part. With such formats you can stand out from other countries, said Rene Tritscher, Managing Director of the Austrian Business Agency. The winning project came from five Brazilians – they won a one-week trip to Austria.
The program included a reception, an introduction to the work location and specialist lectures on job opportunities and living and working in Austria. During the week, the Brazilian guests visited the electrical and electronics industry association and the Graz research center Silicon Austria Labs. There was a company tour at the circuit board manufacturer AT&S in Leoben and at Infineon in Carinthia.
