Berlin: Major rally by Verdi on the amendment to the postal law

“The amendment to the Postal Act must not become an economically liberal amendment,” says Verdi and warns against an expansion of competition in the postal and parcel industry.

With a large rally with thousands of registered participants, the Verdi union wants to protest for good working conditions and job security in the postal and parcel industry this Monday (1 p.m.) in Berlin. The background is a planned reform of the postal law that the federal government wants to implement. “The amendment to the Postal Act must not become an economically liberal amendment,” Verdi previously announced. “An expansion of competition in the shrinking mail market would be reflected in the working conditions of employees.”

According to its own statements, the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWK) wants to use the legal reform to promote competition in the postal markets. The ministry has already published key points. In it, the BMKW also addresses topics such as challenges of digital communication for the postal market, sustainability and working conditions in the parcel industry.

Verdi demands, among other things, that even after an amendment to the law, weekday delivery on six days a week and doorstep delivery must remain guaranteed. Verdi boss Frank Werneke and the chairman of the general works council of Deutsche Post AG, Thomas Held, are expected at the rally on Monday.
