Patagonia hydroelectric concessions extended for another 100 days

The previous extension had been arranged on July 10 and now the Government used that mechanism again to “preserve the safety of people and property located in the Basin” of the Patagonian region.

The Arroyito complex is operated by Enel Generación El Chocón SA. It has an installed capacity of 120 MW and an average annual generation of 720 GWh.

For this reason, the concessionaires “they must continue in charge of the corresponding hydroelectric complex and comply with all their obligations derived from the contract during the aforementioned period,” according to the official text.

The concessionaire companies whose contracts expire are AES (Alicura), ENEL Generation (El Chocón Arroyito) and Orazul Energy (Colored Hills).

Energy clarified that the new extension was arranged based on reports from Enarsa and the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), in order to “carry out an orderly transfer of both the assets and the operation and maintenance of the plants.” . The concessions have a term of thirty years and expire in 2023.

Also, he pointed out that “as a result of the reforms carried out in the electricity sector in the 1990s after the enactment of Law No. 24,065, the vertical division of the electricity industry was established and the activities of generation, transportation and distribution of electrical energy”.

In 1993, by decree, the privatization of Hidronor was ordered and the constitution of a series of companies, such as Alicurá, El Chocón and Cerros Coloradosto operate the Comahue hydroelectric complexes.
