Pandemic: Increased demand: Regional lack of corona self-tests

Almost every day new highs of new corona infections are reported to the RKI. The demand for self-tests is therefore increasing – in some regions they are now becoming scarce.

The demand for corona self-tests in pharmacies or drugstores increases with the growing number of cases – in some regions they are becoming scarce.

There are regional bottlenecks in drugstores nationwide, as a spokesman for the Rossmann drugstore chain announced on request. Due to the current high demand, there could be occasional problems with availability. The “Berliner Morgenpost” had previously reported on it.

The drugstore chain dm also reported a similar situation. “At the moment, due to fluctuating demand and disrupted supply chains, not all products are always available in sufficient quantities,” said the managing director of the dm drugstore chain, Sebastian Bayer. The drugstore offers self-tests from three different manufacturers. None of the tests were available online (as of November 23). However, according to the website, two of the three different tests were available in the chain’s stores in all federal states.

There are also bottlenecks in pharmacies

The corona self-tests can not only be bought in drugstores, but also in pharmacies – there are regional bottlenecks here as well. “In some regions there are currently delivery bottlenecks for rapid tests, other regions still have no problems,” said a spokeswoman for the German Pharmacists’ Association (DAV).

The DAV spokeswoman could not say in which regions the tests were exactly in short supply. “If the tests in a pharmacy run out, the manager of the pharmacy will endeavor to get supplies as soon as possible. That is why the availability in pharmacies can change every day, ”she emphasized.
