In Upper Austria, the federal state round of information from the union negotiators to the works councils from the metal companies came to an end yesterday. As reported, the leaders of the production union (ProGe) and the private employees’ union (GPA) decided after the second round of negotiations to inform the works councils about the status of the collective bargaining negotiations.

800 representatives from metal companies from voestalpine to BMW to Miba and Engel decided to hold works meetings between October 21st and November 1st – if no agreement is reached at the round of negotiations on Friday, October 20th. This sets trade union mobilization in motion.

The two chief negotiators, Reinhold Binder (ProGe) and Karl Dürtscher (GPA), announced in a press release that they were taking part in the works council conferences “higher than ever” been. “It will take movement, because the agreed company meetings are a first step; if necessary, others can follow at any time”was the tenor.

The employee representatives are demanding 11.6 percent, the employers offered 2.5 percent and a one-off payment of 1,050 euros spread over 14 months. IHS boss Holger Bonin recently suggested greater differentiation – depending on the company’s economic condition.
