Economic situation: German electrical industry also exports less in August

For the second month in a row, Germany is exporting fewer electronic goods than in the previous year. For the first time since October 2020, imports of electrical goods have also declined.

The German electrical and digital industry exported less for the second month in a row than a year earlier. In August, the value of exports fell by 1.4 percent to 20.1 billion euros compared to the same month last year, according to the industry association ZVEI. “After the slight decline of half a percent in July, electrical exports fell slightly for the second month in a row,” says ZVEI chief economist Andreas Gontermann. From January up to and including August, the industry recorded an increase of 6.4 percent to 168.2 billion euros.

According to the information, imports of electrical and electronic goods into Germany also declined for the first time since October 2020. They fell by almost four percent in August. In the first eight months, however, they rose by a good eight percent to 178.8 billion euros.
