In the wholesale business, for its part, sales in September marked an increase of 8% year-on-year, measured at constant prices, the agency reported.
In the large shopping centers, meanwhile, total sales at constant prices in September totaled $ 4,466.3 million, which represented an increase of 307.0% year-on-year.
In the latter case, the strong rise verified in the year-on-year comparison responds to the fact that in September 2020 the shopping centers of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) were closed within the framework of the measures taken by the coronavirus.
With regard to the month-on-month measurement, sales in supermarkets in September were 4% below those in August and in wholesalers the decrease was 0.8%.
In September, sales at current prices in the showroom amounted to $ 118,693 million, which represented 96.3% of the total and showed an increase of 62.3% compared to the same month of 2020.
On the other hand, sales at current prices through the online channel totaled $ 4,555 million, which represented 3.7% of the total and an increase of 15.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In September, sales made in cash amounted to $ 37,879 million, which represented 30.7% of the total and showed 56.1% compared to September 2020.
On the other hand, transactions carried out with debit cards totaled $ 34,277 million, equivalent to 27.8% of the total.
Meanwhile, purchases paid by credit card totaled $ 44,023 million, which represented 35.7% of total sales with a year-on-year increase of 59.6%.
Finally, those made through “other means of payment” amounted to $ 7,068 million, 5.7% of the total and an increase of 55.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In sales at current prices, the groups of items with the most significant increases compared to the same month of the previous year were “Prepared foods and rotisserie”, 101.6%; “Clothing, footwear and textiles for the home”, 76.3%; “Meat”, 75.8% and “Beverages”, 74.8%.
Meanwhile, billing at constant prices in large shopping centers, which remained practically closed for almost all of last year due to restrictions to combat the pandemic, the increase was 307%.
Total sales at current prices in September 2021, for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, reached $ 7,809 million, which represented a year-on-year percentage increase of 1,148.8%.
In the 24 districts of Greater Buenos Aires, total sales at current prices were $ 6,839 million pesos, which represented an increase of 1,368.9% in relation to the same month of the previous year.
For its part, the Pampean Region reached a total of sales at current prices of $ 5,601 million pesos, equivalent to a rise of 310.4% compared to September 2020
