The former head of the regulatory authority E-Control, Walter Boltz, and ex-OMV boss Gerhard Roiss plead in a joint letter for the rapid expansion of the gas pipeline through the Mühlviertel. The project is the most important in the short term to increase security of gas supply. “Not preparing would be negligent.”

As exclusively reported by OÖN, the expansion of the line by Gas Connect Austria (which is majority owned by the association) has been delayed for some time. Verbund boss Michael Strugl said commissioning is expected in 2027.

In contrast, Boltz and Roiss, but also the Upper Austrian Neos MP Karin Doppelbauer, say that the line should go into operation in the first quarter of 2025, that this is realistic given the approvals and construction time and is the best way to stop the transport of gas through Ukraine to counteract the year 2025.
