DHL typically transports 6.2 million shipments on an average working day. Shortly before Christmas, however, the workload increases. How can this be achieved?
The parcel service provider DHL is also expecting large shipment volumes at the end of the year this year. During the Cyber Week discount campaign at the end of November and shortly before Christmas, more than 11 million shipments are expected to be transported on individual days, as the group announced in Bonn.
DHL typically transports 6.2 million shipments on an average working day. Compared to the Christmas season a year ago, the estimate is not an increase. DHL had already communicated the same daily highs for the end of 2022.
In the parcel industry, the Christmas season – meaning the months of November and December – is the most important time of the year. DHL is the market leader. In its German post and parcel segment, the group employs 116,500 delivery staff and 40,000 employees in the sorting centers, as well as 10,000 seasonal temporary workers. We are “optimally prepared for the Christmas business,” said Post and Parcel Germany boss Nikola Hagleitner.
DHL does not publish a forecast for the overall shipment volume for the Christmas season. The Biek industry association recently announced that it expected a slight increase in the volume of shipments from companies to consumers in the German parcel industry. DHL’s competitors include Hermes, DPD, GLS, UPS and Fedex.
