The refund of Value Added Tax (VAT) is made for the purchase of products that are part of the basket of food, medicines, personal hygiene and home cleaning.

More than 2.5 million informal workers that receive the reinforcement for that sector today entered the Buy WITHOUT VAT Program through the consumption they make with their debit cards, reported the National Social Security Administration (Anses).

The refund of the Value Added Tax (VAT) is made for the purchase “of products that are part of the basket of food, medicines, personal hygiene and home cleaning, with a monthly limit of up to $18,800″.

“In terms of consumption, the refund represents 11% of what users spent on the basket and the measure will be in effect until December 30 and, if converted into law, it will be implemented definitively,” said Anses through of a statement.

Of the total number of workers who receive the reinforcement, 841,162 correspond to the province of Buenos Aires, 219,119 to Santa Fe, 172,091 to Córdoba and 137,754 to Tucumán.

As for the age distribution, 26% of the applications are distributed among people between 18 and 24 years old; 17% between 25 and 29 years old; and 12% between 30 and 34 years old.

Regarding the gender distinction, the reinforcement was requested in a 70% for men and 30% for women.

The measure will be in force until December 30 and, if it is converted into law after passing through the Senate, the program will be implemented definitively.

Who does not receive the VAT refund

  • Workers in a dependency relationship who earn more than $708,000.
  • People without a debit card.
  • Persons obliged to pay tax on personal property.

How do I make a claim for a VAT refund?

People who did not receive the VAT refund 48 hours after the purchase can begin the claim process with the AFIP in a manner virtual on the official website. The collecting agency will ask you personal informationand taxpayers will have room to expand on the claim details. In addition to the form User Assistance Programthe AFIP has a telephone line (0800 999 2347), which can be called 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.
