The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, led the inauguration of the new Vivoratá Transformer Station (ET), in the municipality of Mar Chiquita. “This project had started in 2015 and was paralyzed during the four years of the previous government in which the idea that the market solves everything prevailed,” said the Buenos Aires president.
The Buenos Aires Undersecretary of Energy, Gastón Ghioni, also participated in the inauguration; the local mayor, Jorge Paredi, and the elected one, Walter Wischnivetzky. “The idea that the market solves everything is no longer observed anywhere in the world: everyone understands the importance of a public sector that promotes and plans strategic investments that later allow the development of other activities and ventures,” Kicillof added.
The work in Mar Chiquita was built by Teyma-Abengoa, and is part of a 500 kV Bahía Blanca – ET 500 kV Mar del Plata power line, built by Intesar SA, an Eling Energía company. The electrical contribution of the line implies a key extension for Buenos Aires’ energy infrastructure that will benefit more than one million inhabitants.
“Having reactivated this work that was paralyzed in the previous stage is very significant because it will not only guarantee a better quality of service to more than one million inhabitants of the province, but it will also allow progress towards a more competitive, cheaper and “clean,” highlighted the Secretary of Energy of the Nation, Flavia Royón, who also participated in the event. Marcelo Meritano and Pablo Arizio were on behalf of Eling Energía, while Omar Ramirez and Marcelo Cupani were on behalf of Teyma-Abengoa.
Royón also assured that the greater electrical infrastructure will not only supply the demand, but is key to giving a greater income of renewable energies to the country and replacing the generation of liquid fuels, diesel and fuel oil, and characterized it as a “key social project.” ”.
The Vivoratá station thus completed the North Atlantic interconnection system, which guarantees the supply of energy in several locations in the south of the province, and the coverage of the high electricity demand on the Atlantic Coast during the season. It included new 500 and 132 kv lines and the expansion and adaptation of the Bahía Blanca, Villa Gesell, Mar del Plata, Necochea and Balcarce stations. It also required the prior laying of a 444 km extra high voltage line between Bahía Blanca and the Vivoratá Substation.
All authorities, both political and business, highlighted the importance of continuing to advance in the works that ratify the country’s energy transition. “The province of Buenos Aires needs to continue advancing in the expansion of its energy infrastructure and, for that, it is essential to have the support of a National Government that understands which are the strategic projects that generate possibilities of a better future for the people of Buenos Aires. ”Kicillof concluded.
Authorities from organizations related to the project were also present, such as Alberto Kozicki, president of the Administration Committee of the Trust Fund for Federal Electric Transportation (CAF); Jorge Alberto Garcia Iglesias, representing the Special Unit for Electrical Energy Transmission System (UESTEE); and Pablo Tarca and Armando Lenguitti, directors of TRANSENER.
