This means that the EU Commission can decide on the extension of the approval until December 15, 2023.

A decision on extending the approval of glyphosate must be made by December 14th, as the current approval expires on December 15th, 2023. In order to achieve a qualified majority, at least 55 percent of the EU states (15 of 27 countries), which together make up at least 65 percent of the total population of the EU, would have had to vote for or against the proposal. In the first vote on October 13th, Austria – like Croatia and Luxembourg – voted against the proposal based on a parliamentary resolution. Six EU states, including France and Germany, abstained.
