Government makes key change for beneficiaries of honorary pension for veterans

Through a decree of necessity (DNU) and urgency issued by the National Executive Branch and published this Thursday at Official bulletinthe integrated system of retirements and pensions.

In the original text it is established that the sons and daughters of the beneficiaries of the non-contributory pensions of Law No. 23,848, which recognizes war veterans of the South Atlantic conflictthey can only perceive the benefit up to 18 years of age.

Now, the DNU modifies this age limitation. As of its entry into force, the sons and daughters of war veterans will be able to receive the honorary pension beyond the age of 18.as long as they do not have the right to another pension, are not incapacitated for work and are not married or in a cohabiting union.

The modification of the decree is justified for the following reasons:

  • War veterans are recognized for their service to their country and their sacrifice. The honorary pension is a way to honor his memory and his merits.
  • The age limitation of 18 years may be unfair to the sons and daughters of war veterans who, for various reasons, cannot access a pension through other means.
  • The modification of the decree is compatible with the current economic and social situation, which especially affects lower-income sectors.

The decree will come into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette, that is, this Thursday, November 16, 2023.
