The seventh round of metal worker wage negotiations was also broken off on Monday evening. Employers would continue to offer wage and salary increases of 8.2 percent on average, but the unions had now even demanded an increase of over 11.6 percent for three out of four employees, explained the chairman of the Metal Technology Industry Association, Christian Knill. The union representatives have announced to the APA that the strikes will continue.
According to Knill, employers would have been willing to pay increases if an improvement had been achieved in the framework law. With their uncompromising approach, the union representatives had maneuvered themselves into a dead end. “We will not be impressed by further strikes and demonstrations of force,” said the employers’ chief negotiator. “Our offer stands, we are still willing to negotiate and have suggested further dates.”
