Government updated the reference value of flour

The update, which comes into effect as of November 22, brings the accumulated increase in the 000 flour bag, in the first 11 months of 2023, to 92.2%.

The Commerce secretary authorized a new updating reference values for wheat and its derived products, which implies greater pressure on the price of bread, through Resolution 2114/2023 published this Wednesday in the Official bulletin.

The update, which comes into effect as of this November 22, carries the accumulated increase in the 000 bag of flour, in the first 11 months of 2023, at 92.2% and 107.8% with respect to the values ​​in force for November 2022.

The last increase had been at the end of October and the day after the measure was known, the price of bread rose 25%precisely to root of the impulse of the rise in flour, adding to the increase in the cost of other inputs and the shortage of raw materials for its production. With that adjustment, the value of bread reached $1,100 per kilo.

The official document justified the new increase by ensuring that “these figures are well below those reflected by the INDEC for the price of french bread in GBA as well as the General CPI”, specifying that the “data for October 2023 show 10-month accumulated variations of 151.4% and 120%, respectively; while the interannual variations are 179.6% and 142.7%, respectively.

Price of bread: how much will it cost from this month

In this way, the value for 000 flour goes from the current $2,825 to $3,059 for 25 kilogram bags, while the reference price for wheat goes from $59,585.07 to $64,530.63 per ton.

Prices on all varieties are without taxes, at the exit of the mill and without delivery costs; and they must be incorporated the following logistics costs by region: City and province of Buenos Aires, 3.50%; Center, Cuyo and Litoral, 5.50%; NEA and NOA, 7% and Patagonia, 10.5%.

In the recitals of the Resolution, Commerce explained that the increase was established “in order to improve the tool impact financial situation both in the cost structure and in the consumer product, it is necessary to increase the supply of flour with compensation in the market and, likewise, update its values ​​so that they are consistent with the evolution of the rest of the components of the cost of the products. products derived from wheat flour”.

The official text framed the decision in that “the National state has been adopting a series of public policies that seek to stabilize the prices of products in favor of the consumer, such as Fair Prices Program.”
