Study: Remuneration of supervisory board members of DAX companies increased

According to shareholder representatives, the work of supervisory boards has become more demanding. This is also noticeable in the salary.

According to a study, the controllers of listed German companies earned significantly more last year than in 2021. The remuneration of the supervisory boards of the 40 DAX companies was the highest.

Chairmen received 7.7 percent more and received an average of around 393,000 euros annually, according to the published evaluation by the German Association for the Protection of Securities Ownership (DSW). Members of the control committee received an average of around 117,000 euros (plus 4.4 percent). According to the information, the total remuneration of inspectors also increased in the other indices of the DAX family.

“Companies are facing immense challenges due to new, Europe-wide regulations and multiple global crises,” said DSW Managing Director Marc Tüngler. “This also makes the work of the supervisory boards more and more demanding.”

The top earner among the chief controllers in the Dax was Norbert Reithofer from BMW with 610,000 euros, followed by Jim Hagemann Snabe at Siemens (602,000 euros) and Kurt Bock at BASF (550,000 euros). According to the study, Wolfgang Büchele from Merck received the lowest remuneration among the supervisory board chairmen in the top German stock market league (112,000 euros).
