At five of 20 Amazon locations in Germany, employees want to go on a warning strike on the night of Thursday to Friday. What the union wants to achieve with this.
The Verdi union has called for an all-day warning strike at five Amazon locations in Germany on the occasion of Black Friday discount day. The union announced on Thursday that the strike would start at the start of the night shift from Thursday to Friday in the five logistics centers of Koblenz, Leipzig, Rheinberg near Duisburg, Dortmund and Bad Hersfeld.
Amazon assured that customers could rely on punctual deliveries despite the warning strike.
In addition to the demand to recognize the collective bargaining agreements of the retail and mail order businesses, Verdi is demanding a “collective agreement for good and healthy work” from Amazon. “Employees report enormous pressure to perform and work intensification and surveillance in the workplace that creates a climate of fear, especially in the fulfillment centers,” criticized the union. That’s why the employees fought for good working conditions and recognition.
Amazon operates 20 large logistics centers in Germany. The company argues that it offers its employees fair wages with additional benefits.
