In kilos, the decrease in imports of clothing was 6.2% compared to the same period of 2020, while the average price per kilo remained at US $ 20.1, without variation compared to the previous year.
“When comparing January-October 2021 with the same period of 2019, a drop of 44.7% in dollars is observed”added the CIAI.
In October, however, there was a strong rise in the entry of imported merchandise, 26% year-on-year in kilos and 5.4% in amounts (US $ 14.7 million).
In the January-October 2021 period, coats were the most imported item, with 19.9% of the total value, followed by pants, 16.8%; and sweaters, 13.7%.
The main external supplier of apparel in those ten months was China, which accounted for 51.5% of imports measured in dollars, followed by Vietnam with 9.0%.
Peru is third (with 5.7% of total Argentine purchases and a high average dollar / kilo ratio of US $ 51.8), which also showed a 30.7% rise in values compared to 2020.
“The last quarter is expected to be similar to last year, which will yield an imported amount in foreign currency for all of 2021 slightly lower than that of 2020,” the Chamber concluded.
