Amazon ruled out its landing in Argentina: what the company said

During the weekend a new rumor circulated about the arrival of one of the most important companies in the world, the competitor of Mercado Libre.

During the weekend a rumor circulated that Amazon would be arriving in Argentina after Javier Milei assume the presidency of the country on December 10. This rumor that excited social media was finally denied by the company itself.

“We do not have operational updates about our presence in Argentina,” said David Flores-Sánchez, Amazon spokesperson in La Nación. At least, in the short term, plans do not seem to have changed.

The same rumor also circulated about Starlink, one of Elon Musk’s parent companies, which was also replicated by Diana Mondino, the future chancellor. In that case, Starlink had already been approved by the National Communications Entity (Enacom), from 2021, permits to operate.

Amazon: what business does it have in Argentina

Although the arrival with its entire distribution chain is still pending, Amazon maintains its presence through the Amazon Prime Video platform that has been available since 2016, Amazon Music since 2022 and Amazon Web Services from 2018.

The retail version of the company (the Amazon store) does operate in Brazil and Mexico, where it competes with Mercado Libre, the Argentine company created by Marcos Galperín.
